John Haigh's Acid Bath
John Haigh was raised by a devout puritanical family, in Yorkshire, England, and was a very religious child. He spent several years in prison for petty thefts, but when he got out, he stole more than his victims posessions, he also took their blood. Haigh murdered Donald McSwann. He drank his blood, stole some of his belongings, and dissolved his body in sulfuric acid. Apparently he believed there would be no evidence left to convict him.back to contentsHaigh went on like this for five years. He murdered and drank the blood of McSwann's parents, along with three other people. Dissolving their bodies in sulfuric acid, each time.
Haigh's last victim was Mrs. Durand-Deacon. He fooled her into thinking they would go into the artificial fingernail business together. She went to his home to see the materials and he shot her in the back of the head. He went to his car, got a drinking glass, and returned to the body. Using a pen knife, he cut into the side of her neck and filled his glass with blood. He stole all her valuables and dissolved her body in acid. Parts of Haigh's last victim didn't dissolve. Among the remains were bones, dentures, and a part of a foot (that was used to identify her). Haigh confessed to all his previous acts and was hanged for his crimes in 1949.

Salem Witch Trials
This was sent to me by LLikINIKIB. It's an excerpt from the book [A Delusion of Satan - The Full Story of the Salem Witch Trials] By Karen Armstrongback to contentsAlmost thirty died. Well over a hundred languished for months in cramped, dark, stinking prisons, hungry and thirsty, never moving from the walls they were chained to, unsure if they would ever go free. Some were tortured by the strange method known as "tying neck and heels", their bodies forced into hoops, necks roped to feet. Others were made to stand without rest during interminable sessions of questioning. Many were even more equisitely tortured by knowing that their children were left unprovided for when they were seized. Mothers wondered if their babies still lived.
By the spring of 1693 despair lay almost as heavy outside the prisons as in. Farms had been neglected while families traveled long distances, on horseback or foot, to visit their relatives in prisons and to attend their examinations and trials. Some families had been impoverished or bankrupted by the disruption of work and the need to pay for the upkeep of their jailed mothers and fathers, brothers, sisters, husbands, and wives. It seems incredible today, but prisoners were responsible for their own fees for their board and lodging, their fetters and chains. Many were without income or assets. Some had been poor, even destitute, before they were accused. Others had their estates and posessions seized by the sheriff on imprisonment, at times so vindictively that cattle were killed, beer poured out of barrels, and broth tossed from pots. Childrens were left to shift for themselves or to be saved from starvation by mercy of their neighbors.
The witchcraft hysteria, which had begun in Salem village a year before, had wrecked Eastern Massachusettes as would a civil war.

grind666@dur.mindspring.com wrote:
It sounds bizarre but it's true, Billy is a vampire, and the stuff about the vampire queen, it's not Billies queen, it's Akasha, the vampire queen. You people don't know anything.
And another one was:
I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BILLY AND I WANT IT. COME TO ME IN 8 YEARS. ALSO HOW IS MEKARE, MAHARET, AND DANIEL.
Hmmmm I think someone has been reading too much Anne Rice lately. Well if your looking for stuff for the Zine (which I must say I luv) or just some entertainment on a shitty day those should help. Kat

Poems
back to contentsUntitled, By Keef Rut
they say that when you die your life flashes before your eyes
I remember my mother looking down at me
I remember black jellybeans
I remember living in the poor neighborhood across from the kid who had to shave his head, because he had lice
I remember school
I remember my first new car
I remember the mailbox in front of the drug store my father lived close to
I remember my wedding day
I remember looking down at my newborn son for the first time
I remember my son growing older and leaving
I remember my divorce
I remember working very hard at something I did not enjoy
I remember reading and writing
I remember the first time I thought I was old
I remember my son, now old, telling me he was putting me into a home
I remember smiling
I remember crying
I remember screaming
I remember feeling
I remember dreaming
I remember hurting

The Rose Family, By Robert Frost
The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But the theory now goes
That the apple's a rose,
And the pear is and so's
the plum, I suppose.
The dear only knows
What will next prove a rose,
You, of course, are a rose-
But were always a rose.
Death & Co. By, Sylvia Plath
Two of course there are two.
It seems prefectly natural now----
The one who never looks up, whose eyes are lidded
And balled, like Blake's,
Who exhibitsThe birthmarks that are his trademark----
The scald scar of water,
the nude
Verdigris of the condor.
I am red meat. his beakClaps sidewise: I am not his yet.
He tells me how badly I photograph.
He tells me how sweet
the babies look in their hospital
Icebox, a simpleFrill at the neck,
Then the flutings of their Ionian
Death-gowns,
Then two little feet.
He does not smile of smoke. The other doesn that,
His hair long and plausive.
Bastard
Masturbating a glitter,
He wants to be loved.I do not stir.
the frost makes a flower,
the dew makes a star,
The dead bell,
The dead bell.Somebody's done for.

Reviews
back to contentsMusic
[Pacific Trim] by Pavement
This record is a rare little gem from one of the nost well respected indie bands around. I don't know why the public shuns these guys. They play what might be called "avant-garde pop", maybe like Weezer, except Weezer is a realy bad imitation, and a lot more boring.
This record starts off with the song "Give it a Day". It's a very Beatlesy song, but a little more tired sounding, in a good way. A lot better than Oasis's annoying imitation. I think it's about a girlfriend's dad or something.
Next on the A side is "Pranksters and Gangsters". This one is a lot like Pavement's older work, if your familiar with it. If not, it's kind of a fun song, melodic, but with a lot of odd sound effects. It's actually pretty cheesy, but the kind of cheesiness that makes a song even better.
First on the B-side is "Saganaw". It's a completely beautiful song, different from most of this band's previous work. It sounds maybe a little countryish, or folky, but with those weird things Pavement always does in their songs. Steve Malkmus kind of yodels once or twice in it. I really love this one a lot.
And last is "I Love Perth". All about Australia and love. I really like this one, too. It's real short, and it kind of sounds like an oldie or something. The words are great. "You're gorgeous, I'm pretty handsome too, we make a pair, me and you, etc." It sounds like they were all drunk when they wrote and recorded it, which makes it all the better.
All in all, I think this is a great little record. Pavement is such a fun band. A refreshing thing to hear after putting up with all that annoying angst-ridden silliness on the radio. Just remember this, friends don't trust anyone who takes themselves too seriously. And give Pavement all your money.

(Hey I like all that angst-ridden silliness)
Movies
[The Lost Boys]
This movie was really good. It's not new, but that doesn't matter. It's about these guys that move to a new town that's full of vampires. The older brother gets into the vampire crowd and becomes one. Th younger one meets a couple of vampire slayers at a comic book store, and they offer to help him anytime. And the mother is just oblivious to everything. I think this movie was supposed to be a horror movie, but it's actually really funny. The younger brother is really wimpy, the kind of "have to sleep in bed with mom cuz I'm scared", kind of wimpy. Anyway is you haven't seem this yet, you should. It's around an 8.
Books
[Flowers in The Attic], by VC Andrews
I've read all of her books (I think theres around 25), and I just love them. It's about a family whose father dies, and they have to move in with their grandmother. Their mother's really selfish and locks them up in the attic for years. There's a set of twins and the grandmother poisons them little by little. The older brother and sister get involved we'll just say (You know what I'm talking about). They all get sick from lack of exercise, food, and sunlight. There's five books in the series, and each book follows their lives as they grow up. The last book tells about their grandmother and why she became so mean and nasty. By the way, the movie sucks. It's nothing like the book. It's a 10.

Lyrics
This was originally a poem by Roger Waters, then set to music by David Gilmor (both Pink Floyd people). It was sent in by Millfarm1back to contents[Wish You Were Here], by Roger Waters
So you think you could tell(That was really nice. Very nice, indeed. I liked it)
Heaven from Hell?
Blue skies from pain?
Can you tell a green field,
From a cold steel rail??
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade
Your hero's for ghosts
hot ashes for trees,
hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
a walk on part in a war
for a lead role in a cage? How I wish, How I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found, the same old fears
Wish you were here.........

Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay
And you're okay
Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands
And make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football teamMoney, get back
I'm alright Jack keep your hands
Off of my stack
Money, it's a hit
Don't give me that
Do goody good bullshit
I'm in the hi-fidelity first class travelling set
And I think I need a lear jetMoney, it's a crime
Share it fairly but don't take a slice
Of my pie
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a rise it's no surprise
That they're giving none away
