Casio PT-1 keyboard meets Radio Shack Space Patrol Walkie-Talkies. Hilarity ensues?
Not quite. Still, this superb collection of borderline noise from the mid 90s goes all the way from bleeps to static-laden blips, with lots of interesting feedback inbetween. Think late Boredoms meets early Sonic Youth (and forget their actual collaborations, which are beyond the scope of this comparison).
Yes, that's your Junk Magnet at the helm, and if you listen carefully you can even hear his old tiny studio apartment in Berkeley (headquarters of the JM zine) in the background. Not that the apartment is making enough noise to rise above the music (or noise, depending on your perspective), but you get my drift.
All 13 songs were recorded live, with one take and no extra effects. Straight from moderately priced consumer audio cassettes to AIFF files to MP3s, for your, um, "enjoyment". No, I don't have a 4 track - all that you hear, is what I made come forth unassisted by compu-trickery. Sure, I looked quite spazzy when I did it, but doesn't it sound swell? (Please Note: Don't ask my former neighbors what they thought of the whole experience - I'm sure they are a bit biased, considering the lack of sound proofing).
Just so that you know, the songs to the right have been carefully sequenced for your maximum listening enjoyment, so if you download the lot, play them in the order I have them in. I'm also planning on pressing a CD including said tracks - plus some other gems from those sessions, not to mention some new Quicker stuff - in the future. More information will be forthcoming. Until then, please spread these tracks far and wide. Use Bit Torrent or the many peer-to-peer file sharing programs, with my blessing.
If you're new to the world of New Wave Casiocore, might I suggest Not Not, Oh La Yo La, or Geiger Counter's Daughter? The first is quite the minimalistic pseudo-dancy thing, the second an action packed distortion jam, and the third a cross between the two. Listen well, and enter the future world of sound that is Quicker
To learn all the amazingly compelling secrets about how Quicker sounds are constructed, by all means read this superb article.
No, there is no official Quicker fan club yet. E-mail me if you want to be the first member.
