Polysics

Despite their look, Polysics aren't just new wave - they are the Boredoms on some addictive new rock.

Tearing up the stage since 1998, they have the Devo-ish/ORI costume thing going but sound like a runaway shinkansen, all lights blaring and people jumping out of the way.

Guitar distortion combined with over-the-top keyboarding and vocals makes a frightfully wonderful package that I'm really getting a kick out of.

I recently acquired the full lot of their Deckrec albums, and I was pleasantly surprised (horrified, actually) to learn that the Polysics have been putting out solid work from the get-go, and I had no idea of their existance until they were picked up by the behemoth, Sony Japan.

Their first Sony album, [Neu] not only collects their last two massive EPs, but fully cements the Polysics as one of my new favorites that can do little wrong, in an ultra-loud Man or Astroman meets Melt-Banana sort of way.

By all means, don't make the same mistake I did: do yourself a favor and locate [Neu] ASAP, and if you dig what they're up to as much as me, splurge on some of their early releases, particularly [A-S-D-R-M] or the 2 CD set that includes them live. Oh, by the way: If you're a CD packaging freak, the Polysics have some of the best art direction around, so make sure to enjoy their music inside and out.

This page will be updated shortly to list the Polysics releases over the past few years; check out their homepage for the latest until then.

Polysics Getting Wide US Release

Although I haven't updated this page in a few years, I'm still buying each and every Polysics release from Japan. I'll post those soon, but I'm sure you can find them on their website. Also note that Tofu Records has released a few of those albums, including their latest. That might be a more affordable way to go, for those not partial to imports.
